Sometimes We Just Need a Break
As I was sitting and trying to compose some original content for this month’s newsletter issue, my wife, Sarah, told me to relax and chill.
She insisted I take a break and enjoy some sunshine. She is a very smart lady.
Before I knew it, she had cheerfully whisked away my laptop and, much to my delight and surprise, wrote this month’s issue on my behalf.
I’m genuinely pleased with how it turned out. It feels different – sweet and fresh – and reminds me just how lucky I am.
I hope you enjoy getting to know my wife a little, and see how she stepped in to help me write this message for you – right when I needed it, even though I didn’t realize it!

Rest Is Not Selfish
By Sarah Adler
Normally, the Adler Clinic’s monthly newsletter is written by Daniel, however he’s currently on vacation at the beach and his family has banned him from working.
So I am writing this in his place!
My name is Sarah (some of you already know me) and I’m Daniel’s wife. I wanted to say a few words about the importance of taking the time to relax and care for yourself as well as sometimes letting others, like your family, take care of you.
Rest, Relax, Rejuvenate
It’s so easy to get caught up in the importance of the little things that make up every day life, and they are important, they keep life moving forward. But it’s also important to take the time to rest, relax and rejuvenate.
Because the chance to rest gives us the chance to grow.
I find that when I take vacation I go through three main stages:
The first is understanding how much stress and anxiety I’m actually carrying.
The second is to catch up on rest. Only once that is done can I do the deep thinking and planning for whatever comes next.
If I do that right, then my final phase allows me to go back to life’s tasks with more thoughtfulness and joy.
Accepting Help Does Not Make You Weak
Sometimes it’s hard to take that time and space of our own volition. Sometimes we need our family and friends to give us a push.
And when it’s really difficult? We need them to just take care of us, because they want to, and we need it.
I think our generation grew up in a time where we were taught that resting or accepting help was “selfish” or “weak”.
But here’s the catch: we can’t help others unless we are ourselves in a good space, and sometimes that requires the support of our community.
It’s not selfish if we reciprocate that same support to each other.

I hope you all find time this summer to rest and rejuvenate. Thanks for letting us be part of your community!
Be well.

Closing Reflection
As August goes by, I invite you to consider where rest and rejuvenation might fit into your routine.
Perhaps it’s as simple as taking a quiet moment for yourself, letting someone else lend a hand, or giving yourself permission to slow down and breathe.
Try to notice what truly restores you. Is it a walk outside, an early night, or simply saying ‘yes’ when someone offers support?
When you allow yourself to pause and recharge, you’re better able to show up for both yourself and others.
Try to find a little more space to rest and be renewed – whatever that looks like for you.
Remember, rest is not a luxury; it’s essential for growth, clarity, and joy. So until next time, be kind to yourself and let rest be part of your healthy regime.
