Meet Daniel Adler

Daniel (T’agyol) Adler has been offering traditional East Asian medicine treatments in Toronto since 1999.

Daniel at a Glance

Hailing from South Africa and now calling Toronto home, I came to Canada over 20 years ago to study Chinese medicine. I often say that I have African roots and Canadian branches!

Trained in Zen Shiatsu, acupuncture, and Japanese herbal medicine, I am a RTCMP in current good standing with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners of Ontario.

I work with a wide range of conditions, ranging from broad issues such as musculoskeletal pain and stress to more specific concerns around digestion and menstruation.

I am particularly fascinated with the profound ability of how gentle, simple treatments have truly deep effects on health.

I am known for my ability to connect with my clients, and for my strong commitment to facilitating healing on multiple levels.

I am known as both Daniel and T’agyol. T’agyol is my Dharma name, which I received when I took Buddhist Precepts in the Korean Zen tradition. It means “Harmonizing of Opposites and Conflict Resolution”. I resonate strongly with both of my names, and use them interchangeably.

I practice the following qualities in order to build a mutual supportive connection between myself and my clients.

Trust + conviction

Developing a long relationship with a client is one of the great joys of being a practitioner.

Furthermore, as we work together deeply, from a place of strong connection and trust, it makes treating your “red zone” flare-ups so much easier. (You can learn more about what is meant by “red zone” by reading my post about coloured pain zones.)

Awareness + compassion

My strengths include the ability to develop and maintain self-awareness and compassion.

I strive to create a space that is conducive to healing and awareness on behalf of the client. If I feel I am unable to help, or if I feel a client would benefit more from the help of another practitioner or modality, I will absolutely communicate this with my client.

Collaboration

Working collaboratively with my clients’ other practitioners is an important part of the healing process.

Having access to clear diagnostic information is very helpful in determining the positive outcome of a treatment. My treatments are not the only solutions, and I am greatly relieved when a client has a good working relationship with their medical doctor.

Listening touch

I avoid approaches that feel mechanical or impersonal when working with the body’s tissues, joints, and organs.

By applying mindful awareness and compassionate touch I am able to create a nurturing environment that promotes the body’s natural healing processes. Through my touch I “listen” attentively to your body, fostering a deep sense of connection and support.

Blending perspectives

I was fortunate to be trained and immersed in a traditional East Asian medical (TEAM) worldview first, before I studied Western medicine.

As such I was able to “on-board” the scientific base of Western medicine while standing on the TEAM foundation. Neither approach is 100% correct. Together they are strongest.
